Aussiemom, this is an old thread. They actually found out their problem was a snake. You may want to start a new thread with your topic. It would probably help you out more. I don't have any advice for your problem but I know there are helpful folks out there who do!

I have been prety lucky. I've been raising chickens for about 3 years now. I haven't had many problems. My first year we had a neighbor dog problem that took out about 6 of our chickens. Then we had a few die just after hatching. We had to cull 2 so far as adults. One due to injury one due to obesity. She couldn't hold her weight. And now I have one that is haivng problems with its legs and feet.

All my chickens from hatching on up get starter until they either lay an egg or have molted. They all have plenty of food 24/7. They never run out as I overfeed. Never know if somethng happens and they don't get seen to everyday. They can go for a few days unattended if necessary. But we see to them several times a day. We don't use light in the coop except in winter when the coop s closed up. I never even new about worning a chicken until this year. I read the other day that giving them a pumpkin will worm them. So out goes out pumpkin, or the guts of it and I scraped a good bit from the sides of the inside. They loved it. My mixture for the adults is scratch grains mixed with laying mash. They get 2 cans of tuna to share between 13 birds along with what ever veggie scraps we have. I buy fruits just for them like apples, plums, peaches, etc. I cut up lettace, and I give hem cabbage when I don't want fertile eggs. That I just started.
