Pictured is a 6 week old Cuckoo Maran from Meyer Hatchery. This was supposed to be a sexed pullet, and in my experience Meyer is pretty spot on with their sexing, but I can no longer ignore the enormous red comb. The chicken in question feathered very early and has a generally hen-like demeanor. The chicken is also huge, twice the size of my other 6-weekers, so maybe it's an early bloomer pullet? The growth spurt occurred a week and a half ago, and at night the newly giant chicken would let the other normal size chicks tuck themselves under its wings in a painstakingly heartwarming way. I think I can also see the start of spurs (small dots on the back of legs), although I know some hens can also have them.

Here are photos, what is the verdict?

Darn, I really wanted that Cuckoo Maran! This large guy is also starting to feel his crumbles as he bit and held onto my partner, and took a few pecks at me today while moving them. It appears he is on the fast track to roosterdom.
