Good Afternoon!

Backstory: I got a group of 15 chicks of various breeds this year. 12 of my 15 pullet-sexed chicks turned out to be roosters. When I contacted Hoovers, who supplies chicks to the store, they were quick to apologize and send new chicks of my choice. That would *definitely* be pullets. I picked Prairie Bluebell Eggers, Starlight Green Eggers, and Midnight Majesty Marans.

Prairie Bluebell Eggers (PBE) are a cross between Araucanas and White Leghorns.

Starlight Green Eggers (SGE) are a cross between Prairie Bluebell Eggers and "brown egg layers", they don't specify which.

Fast forward to now, and these new chicks are 6 weeks old. I'm fairly certain one of the PBEs is a roo. (S)he looks so much different, has a darker comb, and... no tail? Really short tail? Growing tail feathers slower? No idea. I also don't know what to think of the SGE chicks at all. It doesn't help that they are hybrid, and especially the PBE, can be maaaaaany colors/patterns. Really, I'm posting this because there are not many threads/progress pics of these types of chickens since they are a "Hoover Hatchery creation". I hope it will help someone down the road having the same questions as myself! I am labeling pics for each bird: PBE1, PBE2, SGE1, 2 and 3.

Any input from this community on gender guess is appreciated! I will continue to post update pics as they grow until we have egg or a crow!

oh I’d be mad, that’s twice they messed up and sent the wrong gender chicks, correct? Especially if they said they would ‘definitely’ be pullets
Yep. And they were roos as identified and agreed upon by all the members above... I found them nice homes. They turned into beautiful roos... when I contacted the hatchery again and sent them pics they told me that they are "sex-link" and cannot be cockerels. Never again will Hoovers Hatchery get my business. Here is one of the Prairie bluebell roos at 13 weeks old. (PBE2)

In other news... I got some started pullets from Chicken Scratch Poultry and they are DEFINITELY girls, and so lovely. The lady, Angie, replies really quickly as well. I will do business with her again!
