6 weeks into chicken ownership - Why didnt i do this long ago

I will look into those things. The temp drop came on so fast we couldn't get our hands on anything else until it was going to be over. I'm definitely starting to plan for what we may need come winter. We get everything from highs in the 60s to lows in the -teens in winter so preparing for drastic changes will be helpful, though fully feathered, older chickies should be able to handle it better than my freshly outdoored babies!

50 degree swings are the norm here in AZ.Fully feathered adults take it in stride.
 
Chickens are the BEST! And don’t worry - even after spending my childhood raising pet chickens and thinking I knew everything, when I got my first flock again I quickly realized there is still so much to learn. But the most important thing I have learned is that each chicken, like each person, has a unique personality which is apparent from day one ;).

So, soooo true. I dont know what I expected, but it certainly wasn't how responsive the chicks are to me. Almost immediately there was a difference between how each one behaved to me and to each other. Even after this short time I believe I will be learning something new for a very long time, perhaps forever ;)
