I have a 6 month old cochin who has not started laying yet. This morning she had been laying in the coop while her sister was on the nest. I thought she was waiting her turn to lay her first egg. She's been squatting, red comb and wattles, eating shell and showing interest in the nest.

I noticed later this morning was laying in the run with her head tucked. When I got her up, she walked, but would stand, puffed up with her tail tucked. She's not eating or drinking.

I brought her in the house and gave her a warm soak for 15 min. I did feel in her cloaca and there's no egg that I could immediately feel. She's now in a box, in the dark, just sleeping. I have food/water with poultry cell in the box with her, but she's showing no interest.

I did worm my flock last week after finding evidence of worms in a different hen's droppings. I used Safeguard for goats, 10% solution, 100mg/ml. I dosed her at 1.4ml once daily for 5 days. She weighed 5.5# then, weighs 6# as of today.

She's been normally active during free range time, eating and drinking, and as I said, showing interest in laying. Her stools are normal. She has no respiratory symptoms.

What can I be missing? Thanks for reading.

i would get corrid just to be safe and rule coccidiosis out can i see some photos of her currently

Thank you for your response. I have Corid. Here are photos of a fresh stool and her. This stool had some mucous in the middle. Its not as orange as it shows in the photo, it was more of a cream color.

is she laying down alot, does she wooble when you set her down, what about her weight does she feel skinny. im sorry this seems excessive but i lost my best friend to coccidiosis and i dont want to see anyone else feel guilty after finding out they couldve done something if they had known

She's laying down and sleeping a lot. She can walk fine, not wobbly. She's not beefy, but I wouldn't consider her skinny, either.

I'm grateful for your help, I'm sorry for your loss. We lost 4 girls last year and this is one of our spring newbies.

yea i would just give her corid and if shes not drinking you might have to manually feed her water with a syringe

Sorry to hear about your hen. How was her crop this morning? It should be flat first thing in the morning. Have you checked her over for lice and mites?

Thank you for your reply. Her crop was flat this morning. It's still flat because she's refusing food. We've given her water with a syringe.

I just checked, no external parasites.
