6mo old cochin, not eating/drinking, tail down, lethargic

Thank you for your reply. Her crop was flat this morning. It's still flat because she's refusing food. We've given her water with a syringe.

I just checked, no external parasites.
Can you get her to drink some electrolytes with a bit of sugar mixed in?

How does her abdomen feel, between her legs?

How are her eyes, ears, nose and mouth? No lesions, bubbles or drainage?

She's laying down and sleeping a lot. She can walk fine, not wobbly. She's not beefy, but I wouldn't consider her skinny, either.

I'm grateful for your help, I'm sorry for your loss. We lost 4 girls last year and this is one of our spring newbies.
i would just keep an eye on her hand feed her if you have to when we started treating our flock with corid i made sure to syringe feed them all water some of them more squirmy than others

I will do that. Should I treat the flock, too?
Absolutely im so happy you could catch it early because im pretty sure its coccidiosis. the earlyer you catch it the better. also since she allegedly has it an is being treated i would definitely treat the rest of the flock and clean the coop bc if she has it she got from the coop

She did eat a bit of egg yolk and had 6ml of water with poultry cell.

Her abdomen feels normal. Her head looks normal. Nose, mouth and eyes look normal. No lesions, bubbles or drainage, no mucous.

you could give her medicated feed too also might want to give her more water or give her a direct dosage if her condition does improve but if you give direct dossage i would make sure do your research before doing that. anyway goodluck also she looks like my girl sofia a little bit

It would not hurt to give her a dose of human calcium citrate plus d3 vitamin incase she is having a tough time getting ready to lay her first egg. About 300-600 mg. Straight into her beak, pull her wattles down gently and pop the pill in her mouth. It sounds like she was showing interest in laying and was hanging out around the nesting box. She may be having a tough go round. The calcium boost plus d3 could help with contractions.

I’d be shocked if she was sick with coccidiosis at her age. Usually they build up immunity to the soil around them by her age, but it’s always good to keep an open mind.

Let me tag some others and see what ideas they have @Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive

Keep giving her supportive care until she snaps out of it or we can find out what’s wrong. Sometimes after a deworming, if they’ve had a heavy worm load they can feel puny.

Thank you for your help! I was able to get 300 mg calcium citrate and vitamin D3 down her throat. Do I just do that once? She started drinking on her own. Not a lot, but a few drinks. She also ate a few meal worms.

ok good i think we got it early enough however even when coccid manages to progress enough before people catch it recovery is still possible its been about 3 weeks since ours began laying again allegedly because we were on vacation and there were eggs when we got back
this is the flock now

Good to hear, maybe she is starting to feel better.

Yes just once for now. Keep an eye on her and let us know how she does.
