They are now outside in the coop with a brooder light and the temperature this morning read 45 degrees inside coop. Is that ok?

They are not in a brooder, they are in the coop and the thermometer read 45 degrees inside the coop this am - they are 6 weeks old and mostly feathered out

The thermometer is on the ground and last night the chicks got up on the roost closer to the light, so maybe they were cold. I'm trying to decide do I move the light down and take out the roost or let them continue to roost, it's so cute to see the babies on the roost!

If they are roosting on the pole I'd say let them,my opinion is with a light in with them they'll do fine. :-)

I'm so much of a mother hen I didn't put mine out until they were 8 wks old. They huddle together in a nest box for warmth and companionship. Four standard and two bantams, looks so cute with little banty heads poking up through the feathers of the larger chicks! After a couple of weeks (they're almost 13 weeks old now) they expanded to sleep in two nest boxes next to each other. Sometimes a banty will be with the others, sometimes both banties will be alone in the next door nest box. I lift the lid to count 'em every night (and say good night, of course) and they pop their heads up, chirping.

Mine are 5weeks and have been out for a week now I only turn the light on if it is to get below 40 they seem to be fine, and cuddle up more for comfort cause they did it even when it stayed 60 all night. I do have 26 in a 4x4 tractor, and a 12x4 run. In the AM when I open the door so they can go into the run, they are all waiting at the door.Mixed standard breeds
