we have a small flock of 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Golden Sex Link, 2 Black Jersey Giants, with a JG rooster- it is late July and they were bought from a good source around Christmas. They are being fed high quality organic laying pellets supplemented with lots of greens, they always have fresh water. we live on the coast in California where it is not too hot or cold. they have a decent size pen 14ft in diameter and large coup, i have not free ranged them yet waiting for them to start laying in the boxes- at this point i want to keep an eye on them and know when they start laying.
in my few years of having chickens i would expect eggs- i understand the JG take a bit longer but the other breeds are behind..

thoughts?

if they have some sort of infection/parasite what are the signs/symptoms??

Hi
What colour is their comb? Is it a bright red? Have you checked for garden nests? Otherwise I can't think why they are not laying.....

My Cochin hen JUST started laying eggs this week. Today we are on egg #2, and she's 8 months old. We were worried she was a he, considering she's on egg layer pellets, her comb is really big for a cochin, and she's crowing! She doesn't have sickle feathers though, and she was much smaller than her brother who we gave away. I heard that females do that if they are isolated or taken away from roosters. I was really thrilled when we found the tiny egg in the cage )

They'll start laying soon, maybe it's a late-bloomer year.
