Hey all,
We just bought 24 chickens about 7 months old (Rhode Island Reds) and it's been 3 weeks and still no eggs. They are being fed well and have gotten bigger since they've arrived but we are wondering why no egg production!?
Thanks, Liz
PS. Any suggestions about how to make them start laying or encouraging it atleast would be helpful.

You may want to check for mites, lice, or other parasites. Also check their weight. Do they feel skinny? Can you feel keel bones? They may just be stressed from the move.

If their health is OK, you could try adding a light out in the coop---a longer day could encourage them to hurry up. Mine do not lay on rainy/cloudy days. You could also increase their protien a little, maybe give them a boost.

Thanks for the help. I guess the move was traumatic for them. They seem in really good health and have been eating well and have definitely gotten friendlier with us and a lot less scared. They've actually put on weight

. I guess we'll just wait then and be patient with the girls as they adjust to their new home.
