This is an update to my “iffy candling pictures thread”. These eggs are 7 day old duck eggs, and these are current pictures of 3 I was concerned about. Still no signs of veins or life. 2 of them also have a grayish color to the shell, which is concerning (no I don’t think it’s their natural shell color). I was going to leave these eggs in until day 10, but my incubator is pretty crowded and if I take these out the rest will be able to turn more easily. I’ve been hand turning eggs that get stuck in “log jams) and aren’t able to turn with the auto turner.

The last 2 pictures is one that is alive. I’m concerned it’s air cell is a bit too small for 7 days. Technically it will be day 7 this evening.

The grayish color is often sign of a rotten egg. I would get rid of those ASAP to prevent an explosion from occurring. The first pic looks like it developed half way through then died. I’d give the egg in the first pic one more day just in case he is late bloomer. I would toss the other two “grayish” eggs.

Thanks for the advice. I did remove the eggs that were turning grayish. The other one I left in and candled again today. Oddly, it does now have a blob formed in the middle. But no veins. So I’m assuming it’s bad, but haven’t thrown it out yet

Usually the blob is a sign of a bad egg, but every once in a while I’ll get an egg that looks like that but is still alive. I’d give it 1-2 more days and if no veins become visible it’d be best to toss it.

This is the day 10 picture (yesterday) and I couldn’t quite bring myself to throw it out yet. It’s still not moving. Only a few red lines which could be the red ring from dying.. I know it’s probably no good, but I’ll check again tomorrow

On the bright side I have 34 eggs who are doing great!
