7 of my 10 chickens died in an attack while free-ranging today

We lost 15 yesterday. This is the first time losing any to a predator. We are pretty upset about it. It is strange how attached you get to them.
ugh I can't imagine losing that many in one day. I am so afraid when I come home from work today that the rest will be gone. We locked them in their run, but I worry if it was a fox that it will still find a way in.

I have some game cameras in different places on my property. I see some predator usually every night on at least one of the cameras then I know what i'm dealing with and how to deal with the predator.

Domestic dogs are the worst they will chase and kill chase and kill until there is no one left. You may have one or two Chickens show up if they are in hiding.... Hopefully.

I have lost whole flocks to Bobcat and coyote... They tend to take only what they need... Both can climb six foot chainlink fence.... I know my yard is surrounded by dog kennel panels.

i have eighteen acres and cannot free range. The only poultry that I have had success with are very good flyers... Guinea fowl and bantam or bantam crosses. I still lose some.

My next go I hope to have a couple of good patrol dogs some hot wire containment and a couple of game cams so I know exactly what all I am dealing with.

Good luck.

Very sorry. It is tough, you just expect to see them running when you open the door or hear them clucking in the morning and it's tough when it seems so quiet all the sudden...

Bobcat shot on my camera from this winter .... could have been this cat I suppose!
