This is Nutmeg. We heard Nutmeg make some roostery sounds and we are so concerned about the sex of this chick. The comb is far more developed and brighter than the rest and this one is bossier and gives some real staredowns to one of the barred rocks. This one snuggles in my daughter's lap and we are becoming attached.

I can't really tell, hopefully someone with more experience will drop by! I looked for saddlebag feathers and spur development, as well as the tail feathers curling, but I am not too sure.

The barred rocks we have look almost the same but one of them faces off with Nutmeg they both seem to have curly tails. I will be fainting if they gave me three boys.

Nutmeg is a cockerel. Post pics of the barred rocks if you are worried they could be male.
thank you. did you see the barred rock pics above? I wasn't able to get very good ones. I will try again.

So is there any chance Nutmeg is a pullet? I read on here that the patchy coloration usually signifies cockerel in this breed. The comb showed a couple of weeks ago and the little almost crowing sounds are nothing I have heard from my other hens. Even my kids were like, uh oh.

Nope Nutmeg has red shoulders, so Nutmeg is all boy.:)
