Hi everyone!

My wife & I love your website! Always great information here.

Anyway, we have a 7 week old Ameraucana Pullet that maybe a Roo? She is one of 6 Ameraucanas we picked up this year that are all the same age, from the same supplier. She is a bit larger than the others, has very thick legs, is the only one with a comb and has spur buds on the rear of her legs.

The signs point to Roo but I am waiting for the crow. She is in a group of older birds so I am wondering if being nervous or scared from other older hens being around is preventing a crow.

I look forward to hearing from everyone!

Thanks,
Derrick

Thanks Michael,

I referred to Ameraucana because that's what we were told it was when purchased. Either way is fine by me. So my wife, who is an Ameraucana nut!, is a little disappointed that our little girl is a boy. Also I don't think she understands the differences between the two breeds.

Thanks again :D

Unfortunately hatcheries (and by extension the feed stores that buy from them) frequently and incorrectly market their Easter Eggers as Ameraucanas which adds to the confusion. There is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html explaining the difference between Ameraucanas, Araucanas, and Easter Egger which could clarify things for your wife.
