and coming out of the coop trying to attack my foot first thing in the morning. Its comical because he's not even feathered out yet & he's so tiny compared to the rest of my standard flock.
If he's aggressive I'm rehoming him, but I sure would love to keep him, anything I can do to train him to be a sweet boy? I try to handle him as much as possible, but he still spends most of his days with his surrogate standard buff orp Momma & siblings.
He's a cochin if that matters.

Any tips on how to let him know I'm the boss?? I don't want to get into a power struggle with him!

When you open the coop in the morning - be ready and scoop him up. If you miss - walk after him until you catch him - even if you have to go thru the other chickens to get to him. Keep you eyes direct on him and with purpose walk him down (do not have to run after him, your legs are longer, so just walk with purpose).

Once you have him, you can tuck him under your arm like a football or baby. If he struggles, hold him gently but firmly until he calms down - may take a few minutes. (I walk around and do what I can one handed/armed until the bird stops struggling and calms.)

Then I kneel down, set the bird down, and stare him in the eyes as the bird leaves your "direct company". Usually I am talking to the bird as it leaves - "Like that? Greet me that way again and I'll gladly haul you around some more."

I currently have 3 teenage cockerels - two tried to boss me, and I did the above. All three roos still "like" me and will rush to see me outside, all talk to me, all are VERY gentle with my pullets.

No roos are allowed to do any "mating" stuff when I am around - I do not let them - mount or dance for the pullets.

I have a banty roo whos now 17 weeks at first he gave me a hard time but now looks to me as though i'm the alpha roo.Anytime he would act up i would hold him until he was calm, I wouldn't let him go until he was still in my hands. Also I know it sounds mean but give the hens treats and don't let him have any. Read that on this site but cant remember where.
