I have 4 -7 week old EE chicks. 3 have red combs growing in and one does not have anything growing. The 3 with red combs are larger than the one that doesn't have a comb. Does that mean they are roos and when do they usually start crowing??? I am worried, as I cannot keep roos where I live and want to find them a home sooner than later.
Will try to post some pics tomorrow-if i can catch them -lol.

I beleive they start crowing around 6 weeks? By that time you will definetely know which is which. I do not have much experience with EEs but I have three silkie... until about 4-5 weeks, i thought the hen was a male! I sexed them earlier by their wings, turned out it worked! I was skeptical at the time, and didn't beleive it..

I have some EE roos that are 14 weeks old and I haven't heard a crow from any.

The redder combs are most likely roos.

Like I said, i don't truly know the breed, nor much about roosters. I try to stay away from them as much as possible, have had more than 7 nasty ones.... I think one ruins it for the rest.
Definetly look for redder combs and hackle "bulbs" or "Nubbings"

Our EE roos were about 3 weeks old when we could tell the difference. The combs were red and they were all vying for "Master of the Flock". At 8 weeks they were rehomed and all had bumpy comb. The remaining female also had a red comb area but no bumpy. She is also more aggressive and skittish than the others her age, but from the nice folks on here she is a she and has beautiful blue legs.

Good Luck and I am looking forward to pictures.

Thanks for your advise. I have been looking at pictures on here of EE's and some of the girls have small combs but most don't. Dang lol.
Going to wait for my daughter to help me take close up pics of them on Sat-she is at camp and is the family photographer-lol
(i have to catch them in bed as running around the yard to catch them for a up close pic would be exhausting!)

My first EEs were all sexed pullets, some of them started getting red combs at 7 weeks, but they all turned out to be girls anyway, so I would've abandon all hope, yet.
