Hi everyone,

We rescued a mallard 7 weeks ago from a parking lot in Florida. She lives in our pond now in Kentucky but I'm afraid that she has angel wing.

Does anyone have a video or pictures so we can wrap it.

Also, is it possible that we could break her wings or legs by accident in the process.

Thanks,

Christine

However I am not sure if that duckling is too old? Maybe another member will know. I've only dealt with one case of angel wing, and I know it needs to be fixed before their flight feathers come in or the fix won't do anything.

Thank you so much....my husband thinks her flight feathers are the ones sticking out. I wish we had known about this earlier and didn't feed her those meal worms. I feel just awful.

It's okay, really. Stuff happens. A lot of people thing angel wing is actually genetics, and not protein caused, so don't fret. And thank you for rescuing her and taking care of her anyways!!! :)

I have wrapped a mallard duckling slightly older than that one and after 3 days he was fine. Though his angel wing was less severe.

I can see some remaining duckling fluff on the back of the neck so think there is still time to correct it.

I used an old sock with the end cut off and holes cut for his legs and feet. Have also done the same with a 9 & 11 week old paradise ducks using an old sleeve from a top made of stretchy material. All affected ducks wings were successfully corrected and all can now fly perfectly.

You definately should try wrapping it asap. Otherwise she will need to be protected all her life at night etc from predators just like domestics as she wont be able to fly

Keep a close eye on the duck while wrapped just in case it slips and she gets her legs stuck inside and can't walk.

Good luck
