7 week old polish chick

Right now he is very attached to me and comes running when I enter the coop or run and follows me everywhere
Don't mistake this as affection or that he likes you 😉 he is playing his cards and believes you are his subordinate, there to serve him.

Most folks look at this and say "oh he is so sweet!" Wrong, he is conniving and self centered. My wife falls for this nearly every time with the little cockerels.

Roosters are simple minded but very complex and fascinating. I love them, and really admire a GOOD rooster, who is in control of his flock. He is gentle with the hens, eats last and has a bellowing crow (my favorite part to be honest).

We had an Orpington rooster, Honey, who was a champ for years. Recently and sadly, he was just dethroned by a year old rooster named Avi. Most all of Honeys hens now follow Avi and Honey is just like everyone else. The emotion that you could see on him was absolutely devastating. However, I recently moved him into the goat pasture, and came out the next day to a few of the older hens jumped the fence and were walking around with him - I won't lie, I cried. I spend about 30 mins every morning with the chickens, a lot of that talking to Honey, like a nutcase. It was nice to see him happy.

He is back to his old self now, in retirement, with his little flock.

Moral of the story - roosters are really awesome.

I had a light Brahma rooster “Chuck” who was amazing and a complete gentleman. My profile picture. He was also supposed to be a pullet. I will watch Kiefer he is young yet, but my girls come first. I guess I better start letting him know that I am the boss. 😉
