I chose the two with the smallest combs and wattles out of the group and the 4H kid did some head-hanging trick and thinks they're girls. What do you all think?

Here are our BCM at 6 weeks. 2 males, 2 females. Yours are a little older. But based on wattle growth and comb wattle color, I’d think possible males for both. The second pic looks younger. First pic bird has a nice shape comb.

Shoot! I'm having terrible luck lol I chose my EE for their tiny pink combs and both ended up being males and now these guys 🤦‍♀️ I was hoping since they had smaller combs and wattles than the others they might be girls

Around 12 weeks the pointy male saddle feathers will become apparent if they are really boys. So, if male you’ll have that confirmation before they start to crow. Some breeds develop faster than others, so if you can keep for a few more weeks to get further confirmation, then do that.

Where are you buying the chicks?

Local farmers market, I bought these from a 4H teen. I'll hang onto them for a few more weeks, hopefully they're girls, but if not I'll just try more 🤣 chicks are such a crapshoot but no one is selling laying pullets around here with the pandemic going on

Eh, people really aren't like that around here so I don't think it was a well thought put scam 🤷‍♀️ anyway, like I said, I bought two 12 week EE in Feb and everyone on here swore up and down that they were females but they both crowed last week 😂 they had the tiniest pink combs you have ever seen... until they didn't lol chicks are tricky business! But yeah, small town and everyone here is just so nice and another farmer stepped in to help me choose these two 🤷‍♀️

You could just grab a few sexed pullets from a hatchery while you continue your local search :) at least that would take the pressure off of not having layers.
