not trying to be a know or anythign but i thought i would share this technically those are french black copper marans they are different because french black copper marans have feathered feat. black copper marans would not
I'm going to disagree. And this is a touchy subject when it comes to BCM breeders and the individual opinion they have.
All Black Copper Marans worldwide (except the UK) must have feathered legs to conform to the French Standard. Technically, alot of US breeders in particular have dropped the 'French' word from the title knowing full well these are bred to the French SOP and should have feathered shanks and outer toes. The argument starts between breeders when they say unless the birds or eggs are not directly imported from France they are not French Marans. They're just Black Coppers bred to the French Standard of Perfection.
I have a tendency to disagree with this as my belief is if they're in fact bred to the French SOP, the 'French' should be able to be stated and implied as I've had dozens of inquiries into my lines asking if they are French or feathered legged if I don't specifically state it. To get around this disagreement if I'm advertising Marans, I specifically state they are bred to the French Standard as some consumers don't realize they must have feathered legs according to the APA.
And just an added FYI.. the UK (English) Standard calls for clean legs. The Brits imported Marans to England and bred them to they're own specific Standard away from all other countries that continue to follow the French SOP.
Leg feathering in the Standard is fairly vague in its interpretation and usually breeders adjust this to their personal liking in their breeding program. Sparce to heavy... when there's no leg feathering at all is where the arguments arise. Is it an English Marans, or a 'French' Marans that's just poorly bred? I say the latter...
It's more than likely still an FBCM just poorly bred.
