8 day old Gold Lace Orpington chick dying.........dying......

you need to put electrolytes in his water and help him drink it (dribble along beak etc. do NOT squirt in beak)... anytime a bird is panting it needs electrolytes. Do not emmerse longer than ten minutes at a time maximum is what I have read (put on a cloth over a hot water bottle perhaps to keep the area warm until safe enough to try again?)
It sounds as though it could have a malabsorption problem (meaning it doesn't absorb the nutrients from the feed properly even if it does eat enough) > this is too young to be giving anything but its starter and yogurt. Is the starter medicated? If not put it on medicated starter. I would get some AviaCharge 2000 for a bird with indications this is a problem.

ok....he has done a poo but to be honest it has just confused me all the more.....its perfect!!!! not dry or hard or anything and he didn't seem to be have too much difficluty getting it out.........so why is he still panting and so weak??????

Its on medicated starter and I am pretty sure its panting because of its fecal problems as it seems to be trying to ......i don't know.........push or something!!!! It kind of looks like its panting with its vent if that makes any sense at all....

panting will CAUSE an electrolyte imbalance so whatever else may be wrong the bird needs electrolytes... use diluted childrens pediolyte if you do not have any direct to hand .

Ok, just wanted to let all of you who helped me out that the Orphy is alive and thriving, I have moved him back in with his pen mates.

I never figured out what was wrong with him exactly, after I did the water thing with him I just left him alone in his pen and he was jumping around the next dat.

What a difference a day makes!!!
