Good morning. Hate to issue a 911 so early in the a.m. without too much

going on yet, however, I woke this morning to find a total of eight hatchlings in the bator! While this is a cause for major

as this is our first hatch, I noticed that I have eggs that are trying to hatch and the bator is DRY!

I had two hatch overnight for the 8 total I have this morning. Our first hatched on Saturday, second on Sunday morning, two Sunday afternoon, one late last night and two overnight. My plan, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is to do the following:

Turn on the brooder light and set water and food in the bucket
Warm a towel in the dryer
Place it in the bottom of a small box
Crank the shower to hot and close the doors to increase humidity in the bathroom
Take the incubator into the bathroom, place the older chicks in the warm towel lined box (i.e., the ones that are steady on their feet, dry and active)
Transfer them to the brooder bucket
Put warm water in the bottom of the bator
And pray for more

afterwards.

Best course of action?

not from personal experience but from what ive heard all the buffs say thats exactly right they always say open it in a steamy room and the main thin is to do it fast

I was just going to let you know what I am attempting to do (this is my first hatch also.) I have a still air bator and I was trying to figure out a way to keep the humidity up and not open the bator while waiting for hatch. I took a bendable drinking straw and placed it though the ventilaton hole at the top of the bator and poured hot water through the straw to replinish the fluid reservior and sponges. Good luck!

Well the transfer is complete! As I was figuring out my plan of attack and getting stuff ready another hatchling had popped up and surprised me.

So I cranked up the shower, threw an old flannel in the dryer and then a box, got a pitcher of warm to the touch water and proceeded as I detailed above. The chickies are roaming the brooding bucket, the newer ones are hanging out in the bator and getting their "land" legs.

Hopefully I'll get more. It seems as if my ebay eggs, the batch we started first, has all turned to quitters.

I haven't seen one of those eggs hatch yet. It seems as if all 12 of the second batch we got given to us will do just fine. I gotta go flip the third batch soon and then they go into lockdown on Thursday.

Thanks everyone for the support and reassurance. I think it's breakfast time.
