Just asking out of curiosity - Can a chicken molt after an illness? Or could coming inside from a wintery coop for a week of recovery from illness cause a hen to molt? She’s only 8 months old and has been molting heavily for the past 2 weeks. We are still well below freezing at nights and in an effort to let her live more naturally vs in my front hall I have her in a stall in the barn with a heat lamp and a buddy at night. They wander the barn and sometimes outside during the day when it’s sunny and warmer, but she’s so thinly feathered right now, she shivers all the time. And sometimes her buddy thinks she should snack on her feathers. Poor girl is so uncomfortable, I try to touch her as little as possible.
She’s getting eggs and tuna, and layer feed, water with vitamins, she’s been dewormed…always something with this darn girl lol.
