8 month old Wyandottes not laying yet

Just had another thorough look outside. No eggs. It must be the lack of light. If this is the case it will be a good few months before I see eggs

all of my books say most hens need 14 hours of light per day to lay... but that seems like a lot to me... hopefully yours won't need quite that much and your eggs will start showing up sooner than later! I understand about being impatient. When I got my first chicks (this year), I got them on one of the first ship dates from the hatchery so that they would start laying soonest and I wouldn't risk not having any until next spring for exactly the reason we are discussing here (not enough light by the time they were old enough). I they were born Feb. 9th and I got my first egg June 26th (3 days ago).... and I could hardly stand the waiting before that!
