As of this morning we have 8 Bob Whites that have hatched so far......

We got 15 eggs from JJ (thanks, JJ) and today is day 25. I wasn't as religious messing around with adjusting the temp on my LG bator this time, well because quite frankly it can make you nuts! So, I think the temp might have been running a tiny bit low, and therefore they are a little late with hatching. We did have one that hadn't really zipped far enough around the egg so he was having a hard time getting out. Even though I know it is a No-no... we did help him a bit (after watching him struggle for hours), and I am happy to say that so far he seems to be doing fine

Hoping to have a few more hatch today, but completely happy with the results so far!!!

So..... I just put two in the brooder that I was keeping in the bator to dry off, and Oh My there are two more that have zipped!!! Even though the humidity was fine, the membranes look a little dry, so hope they will be okay. I also re-wet the sponges when I took the two out to move to the brooder. So far, we only had the one have a problem hatching, so I'm sure these two will be fine.

Sounds like all is going well !! I keep an eye on the ones that hatch later than the rest. They seem to be more prone to problems hatching in my limited experience.... They seem more apt to start zipping, and then take too long of a break, and end up shrink wrapped. I dont feel at all bad about helping one that has sat for many hrs after zipping, and kinda quit trying. Some make it some dont, the ones that do make it are "bonus birds". If they dont make it, or you have to cull it later, you have lost nothing. Bill

Thanks Bill

When I just checked a minute ago one of them was already out and the other was very close. I will check again in a few minutes. I still think that the reason they took a while to start hatching is because the darn LG had the temp a tiny bit too low. Some day I will be able to afford to get a better bator.
