Hello all,
Hatched out 2 Cream legbar chicks. One born with crooked toes on one foot. Placed them in 24 X 36 cage in enclosed section of barn with heat lamp and newspaper down to start with then changing to shavings at 4 weeks. Crook toe smaller as both grow and dies no symptoms at 6 weeks. Feel chick had health/DNA problems from start. At 8 weeks 2nd who was growing well and feathered out nicely was found standing droopy and with head on cage floor and eyes shut. This chicks breast bone was very obvious when held. Not really respondsiive but did open eyes for a second. At end of day not looking better and still standing in same cornner. Next morning went out; chick flat on floor head to side eyes closed no movement. No loose or bloody droppings at time or now. Put on gloves and removed to a feed bag that I already had some rolled up newspaper in to bury later. Came out that evening to check other cage of chicks and saw that the feed bag was at an angle and about to fall over. I went to set it back up stragight when something rustled in it. A few heart palpations later my brain came back online and I realized that this was an enclosed room so only possible critter could be a mouse. Picked up bag looked inside and their was my chick standing up looking at me as perky as all get out. Picked her up and put back in cage at water and feed dishes and she started drinking and then ate some. Now a week later she is still fine..
The only thing I did that changed their routine was take out the shavings and mat I has laid down so that chick was now standing on wire floor that is 1/2 " wide by 1" long at 7 weeks.. I have never had anything like this before...any thoughts.

Looked her over pretty good as was concerned about possible disease factors. Guess that was why very shocking to me when found her alive. Have raised quite a few chicks and never seen anything like this. Glad to say she is fit as a fiddle and just intergrated into main flock last week. Her name of course is Miracle!
