So - I know this has been beaten to death in these forums.. but since I just want to make sure 100% that I'm doing things the right way - I'm going to ask again.
My oldest pullet (BR) will be 20 weeks around September 5th. My babies will be 20 weeks (BR's also) on November 5th. I know I keep feeding them chick start until the 20 week mark - but do I then start mixing in layer feed? Will it hurt the oldest or youngest? I was also going to put out a separate dish of oyster at the time the oldest was 20 weeks. I just don't want to cause damage to anyone by not feeding them correctly.
Thanks in advance y'all!

They're really not that fragile. Layer feed has extra calcium, but a new layer doesn't need it as much as an older layer, she still has a good store in her body. I'd wait until most everyone starts laying, then change to layer if that's what you intend to feed. I can't feed everyone different, so I just use an all in one feed and offer oyster shell on the side.

Thanks. They get plenty of ground time and eat tons of bugs all day long in the grass. I have them on a 20% chick starter feed right now. I am toying with the idea of adding meal worms to my compost pile so I can get them fresh larvae as well. (DH puts his foot down at raising meal worms in the house). I will definately see about adding the oyster when Libby (oldest) turns 20 weeks and then switching them all at the beginning of November.
