To the people who are still watching this thread..
This morning i took the booties off. I was disappointed to see that the one foot was still curled. But the other one was open again. What a relief! She is where she was a few days ago again.
I guess the anti inflammatory medicine is starting to work. The chicken did amazing today!
We went out, and usually i would lock Speedy up in the cage or just stay home, but i put the chick in the cage. It was a pleasant suprise to see that she could stand on the sand! And she enjoyed herself sooo much. She even tried to scratch at the ground and succeeded in scratching her face! I stood there like a proud mother haha!
I did not make the booties again today. I just felt that they would bother her more than without them. But tomorrow ill do it. Ill try my best !!![]()
Oh she already has a name ! From since she was a baby. Her name is Dot, in Afrikaans its Kol. She has one black feather on her back![]()
It sounds like she might be making some progress!
O.k. now...I know you are keeping her, so this sweetie does need a name![]()
That's a great name for her!Oh she already has a name ! From since she was a baby. Her name is Dot, in Afrikaans its Kol. She has one black feather on her back

See the dot?
She has improved. She acts more like a chicken. She sandbathes, scratches and can even run! The one foot is still curled, but the leg works
That's a great name for her!
I'm glad to hear that Dot (Kol) is improving! Is the bootie helping the curled foot at all?
I'm glad to hear good news Janke! I hope Dot continues to improve. Thank you for the updateThis morning i was suprised to see that my chicken curled foot was a little bit less curled. The right toe is working, but the other two are acting like they are superglued together and a little bit curled. But im so happy. Dot is enjoying her life. Sandbathing , and actually getting sand on her back !!! , and scratching. Shes living the life. Im trying to teach her to walk to her cage on her own when she has to sleep, but its harder than i thought.
But i dont mind putting her to bed every night, im just so happy shes alive
I dont think i will be posting on this thread as much anymore. I just want to say thank you for everyones advice and support during this difficult time. I might be giving some updated now and then, but yeah.. thanks for everything!!![]()
Thank you for the update Janke. I'm sorry to hear she's had a set back, hopefully with your extra care she will heal up again.Hey everyone, just wanted to let you guys know
Dot was doing great since the last time i posted. Walking and running and no curled feet
This weekend i was away and Dot was under the care of my grandparents. They always take great care of our chickens. The previous night my grandmother said that Dot was doing great and went to bed with a full crop
This afternoon, after leaving my chickens alone for about two days, i saw that Dot was sleeping in our dog's bed. It was cold out so i didnt think much of it. I put her on the grass and saw that the left foot (which took very long to heal) was curled. Thee other one was still fine
But i was devastated.
I immeediately gave her some of the anti inflammattory medicine that our vet gave us the last time. The foor opens sometimes, but is mostly curled. She still walks around, oecks and scratches and even sun bathed. But shes extremely off balanced because of that curled foot
My mom and i will try to take her to the vet. Maybe tuesday, we are a bit busy this week
I just wanted to let you guys know. I was completely devastated. Please just hope and pray for this lil chick
