A chick of about 5 weeks came into our animal shelter. I took her home because we have a flock. Their run and coop are inside our barn, then they free range during the day. Right now she spends her days in the quarentine pen with the two new pullets. The new girls are starting to lay.
My question is, at 2 months can she stay outside with temperatures going down to 40F at night? Does she need supplemental heat source? It's going to begin to get cold fast here in Ontario. Thanks! We don't raise chicks, we buy 5 month old pullets.

She should be fine. At 5.5 weeks my chicks were living in an unheated and uninsulated coop, it was in the 20s and snowing. She should be feathered out well enough by now. Nice rescue, by the way!

One last question please. She is on chick grower with our two new pullets 5 months old We would like to get them into our chicken coop with the big girls but they eat organic layerr mash?
What should we do about their food? How can we feed two different diets?
We have the option of keeping the two groups separately as long as required. ie- the newbies and the regulars!

Many thanks.
