Hi, I'm a new member but have been reading older forum posts for a few months to get ready to bring home chicks. 47 chicks arrived from McMurray at the end of May. We're all in love! We have 39 babies left and since we lost more then we'd hoped, we have 25 more babies coming next week! (well, 9 of those babies are for my mom).

I wasn't picky about breed... only knew we wanted lots of eggs of many colors so I ordered their brown egg layers assortment and their Murray's Choice Layers. I've been really happy with the wide mix of breeds. I'm planning on selling eggs and since I've named our little "farm" The Painted Hen, having more then one color of egg in each dozen sold will go along with the colorful theme.

I did order 2 each of Buff Orp. & Black Austr. males since I wanted to pick which breed the roosters would be. So far my little males are very friendly.

Well, not sure what else to say in a chicken intro so I'll just say bye for now and thanks for all of the great information I've learned from the forum already!

Welcome to BYC! So glad you could join us!

Sounds like an amazing plan.

McMurray is awesome, I'm expecting some chicks from them in a few days.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Buff Orps and Black Australorps are super breeds to keep! Very friendly and docile. Both calm breeds. My Aussies follow me around like drooling puppies begging for a lap to sit on or any goodies that might be in my pockets.

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our flock!

Thanks, all :) Glad to be here.

So far my friendliest chicks have been my red stars, one of my buff orp.males, one of my light brahmas, and my blue andalusians. It's funny how some chicks are so friendly and love to be held and some of them I don't think I've ever gotten to touch because they don't come anywhere near me. I guess even though they were all raised together and the same way, personalities come into play. :)
I can't wait to see what breeds I get next week with my next assortment. :)

Here are a few of the millions of pictures I have taken of these little guys :) They'll be 9 weeks this Monday.

My light brahma, Nellie, resting after a long first evening "free-ranging".

Their first taste of freedom!

I took this pic right before she pecked my teeth! Ouch!
