One of the BO roos had their leg caught for quite a while today. The leg is not dislocated or broken, it was just pinched for a while so the chicken was stuck and the blood circulation was hampered but not stopped. How long to you think the foot will return to normal? The chicken is not putting weight on the foot, but it has full motion with it and it was able to hop onto the lowest rung of the roost to sleep tonight (but it left the injured foot to dangle).

I am hoping that it is just a matter of time before it will feel comfortable using the foot again, and the only reason it is not using it is because it is hurting right now....

First, for the next few days, try to keep him confined up to a smaller area where he doesn't have to use that leg to get to food and water much. Especially in this heat.

It takes a while for these sprains to heal. Just as in humans, time, reduced walking around, etc are important.

Ok, thanks. I was thinking that just like when a person has a foot that is asleep, that must be how that foot feels.

I'll see how he is today.
