I'm trying to determine if this is an injury or disease. This is an 8 week old Polish/Production Red Rooster cross. He will high step when he walks. When he stops to eat standing seems difficult and he ends up sitting in a strange position. This has just started in the last two days. He has been out playing in the yard the last two days the whole day with the rest of the youngsters. Their first real time in a large area. They are normally in a smaller caged area in the coop so that the adult chickens can't get them. They have pine shavings for bedding. There has also been lots of sparing and playing between the birds. No one else seems to have any problems. No sign of trauma and legs don't feel unusual. Eating, drinking, pooping look normal. All I have done is separate him to observe him.
First question - Does it look like an injury, just a condition he has or disease?
Second - If it is a condition, will he out grow it?
Third - If not, do I cull and how do you cull a chick?
Pictures are of his high step, how he looks standing, and sitting position. He doesn't always sit this way but when he sinks from standing to sitting - as if he legs won't hold him.
