80 bucks for a box of dead chicks!

Wow that's worse than my case. I mean, I ended up ordering more than that and had a lot more die, but certainly not on arrival! I surely hope the remaining make it! And you most definitely should call the hatchery!

I think that since you've done everything you can for the moment for the survivors, your next step needs to be to check Ideal's website and see what their policy is on DOA's. Most of the larger hatcheries have their terms clearly listed somewhere in either their customer service and policies section or check their FAQ's sections and what to do about DOA's. They'll probably give you credit on your next order, or will send you out replacements right away. Please do let us know how it goes. There are many of us contemplating purchases this time of year from Ideal and places like them. It would be good to know how they handle your case. Good luck and I hope they send you out replacement chicks right away!

Which breed(s) did you order? Was it a mixed bag, or a straight run? Sometimes some breeds will ship better than others will, being of stouter, hardier natures.

Oh, so sorry to hear that! What an awful thing to open a package of dead chicks! I'll bet the hatchery will replace them........I sure hope so! Good luck with the four little ones who made it!

I ordered leghorns/cochins/welsummers/marans/barnevelders/oegb..all these in several colors. I wouldnt mix bantams and lf again....bantams were squished in a bloody mess on the bottom.

Ideal was called when i got to the PO. The po lady also pulled up the packages history for me so we knew where it was.

My chicks also arrived today. Well, my 4-H kids' chicks. They were also from Ideal, shipped wednesday. We had 9 LF and 12 bantams, 21 total, all but one bantam arrived just fine and that one had some intestine hanging out, so I think it was more than just cold problems for him. Now it is early yet, and I know we might still lose some, but so far they are all running around eating and drinking and looking great. I wonder if your box got left in the cold somewhere?
