It was very hot today. putting them to bed and there all mouth opened and wings out. I shouldn't say all more like some. We have an added-on part we call the penthouse and there's a roost in there but they all seem to stay on the same one cramped. we're taking it out soon so they have no choice but to roost on the new one. The coop is almost 80 degrees and I think is going to rain tonight so that should make it better but what can I do to make it cooler??? uring the day we have a fan that sits on the other side of the chicken wire so it blows air to them, it seems cool air, I'm going to keep cold water and stuff. but what else???

These are the only pics I could find. These are of the "penthouse" area. In the second pic you can see where their roosting now and yes ik the whole to the penthouse is small but we couldnt nake it bigger. This penthouse was added on bc the coop was too small. And they use it as a playroom rn and look out the window in the morning.

Today was warm, but not too sunny. My girls are fine. Yours will be too. Wait until we have oppressive humidity and heat! (Jersey girl here too!)

It was in the upper 80's today for the first time where I live too (SE PA). I have Buff Orpington's I too was concerned. I have A LOT of ventilation in the coop. Its a 5x 4 coop and each side has 1-2 large windows at Roost height that are open. We have 2 roost bars to choose from. Despite the space, every night they huddle and fight for the same spot. Despite the heat, they still huddle. They are all panting right now. Yet, they are still all touching each other. Panting is just how they regulate their bodies. Last year it even got to about 97 in the coop, but at night dropped upper 80's. They all managed. Just make sure they have adequate access to water. My water is in the run, but the coop door is automatic to open and close with the sunrise/ sunset so they can get it as soon as they see enough to get off the roosts.

Yes, at 7 in the morning every day I open the coop door or if someone is leaving early they will for me. I bring in one water every night so when I go out I can put out the clean fresh water and take their second water inside to change. My BO does not like when they take her spot. The hens have even kicked my mean rooster off the roost many times because he wasn't in his spot. My starlight hen is smart and when she gets her space she keeps her wings open so no one crowds her.

thank you. I usually worry because if I'm sweating just walking out the door I can't imagine staying outside with feathers!
