Hi there,

I'm currently building an 8x10 chicken coop on wheels, we've finished the deck and are starting on the walls soon. I was wondering if anyone else has an 8x10 coop or similar and how they set it up ie. how many windows, did you place your door on the short or long side, what kind or roof you went with, internal or external nesting boxes, how much ventilation, roost bar placement, anything you wish you had done differently? any advise would help :)

Thanks,
Jamie

I have an 8x12 coop inside an 8x16 building but it's not on wheels. I imagine you will need a tractor to move it around.
Any reason for the mobility with a coop that size? Why not stationary?

We live on a 50 acre farm but we are very close to a busy road so we aren't able to let the birds free ranch unfortunately. So i decided to get some premier electric poultry fencing to put around the coop to keep them contained.. with around 20 birds grazing the same stationary area every day i worried about the lush grass pasture turning into a dirt pit with all the continuous scratching, with the coop being mobile we are able to move them weekly to a new grass patch and let the previous spot recover. We will also likely be moving in the next 5 years or so and i wanted to be able to move our chicken coop with us :) - and yes we have a tractor/ gator to move the coop :)

You can click on the My Coop link in my avatar and scroll through the article. It will give you my thoughts on layout, ventilation and other design features for chicken keeping in the NE.
