8x8 Coop - Floor Layout - Does this work?

Are your hens laying yet? Just wondering if there is enough height difference so they don't try to sleep in the nest boxes.

JT
They aren’t laying yet. We haven’t even added the nest boxes. They will be in the front corner, this side of the feed bin. They will be 18” off the floor. The poop board is 36” off the floor.

Yes. They never try to sleep in it.
The roost height over the poop boards is about a foot higher than the bottom of the nest box.

I like it.
I am working on my shed to coop conversion and it has a very similar layout. I'll include some pictures. I really like the horizontal nipple waterer. The water stays clean and it's easy to heat with a thermostatically controlled bird bath heater or small aquarium heater in the winter. My chickens had been drinking out of a heated dog bowl up until the move on Easter Sunday. They walked into the new coop, went over to the waterer and immediately started to drink. No problems having to "train" them.

I have a similar roost and poop tray for my new coop I think I'll raise up the nest box a bit.

I havn't built the dividing wall yet but they will have 6' x 12' of coop.

The roll out nest box will be in the dividing wall.

Very similar to mine, the floor area on mine below the roost bars is one layer of 2x4 wire and a layer of chicken wire, most of the poo falls through to the ground, I do have to clean the wire at times, my coop is 2 feet above the ground, birds seem to like to hang out under there, I have pvc pipe with 8 nipples ran around the lower edges of the coop
with a 5 gallon bucket for water, works well, have to drain in the winter though
