9 1/2 week coturnix quails, no eggs?

I'm not 100% certain that one is a roo. It has the facial markings of a hen. See the double-stripe running down the cheeks? That's one of the ways I tell my pansy fee hens since their breasts don't give a clue on gender.

Bee do you notice the red in his head compared to the no red in hers?

I don't have any experience with coturnix quail so I couldn't tell you their genders, but when I hatched my bobwhites they were supposed to start laying at 22 weeks (which I know is very different from coturnix) and it took them almost a year longer to start laying. I have no idea why it took them so long, but I was VERY surprised when I saw an egg in their cage. But my bobwhites also don't lay in the winter, they start laying during mating season and continue through the summer and they stop laying when their chicks would be fully grown (around September) I love my bobwhites because it is so easy to know what gender they are because the males look completely different from females. Anyways, I hope you figure everything out! And I'm sure not all of your quail are males :)

Haha, hopefully! A year and a half before laying seems like a long time! Do Bobwhite quails live a lot longer than coturnix? I don't know much about them.
