Auto Zone carries some for $3.99, (up by the register) they take 3 AAA batteries. With fresh batteries (or newly charged rechargables, which I use, otherwise you go broke buying batteries) they are bright enough to candle.

My DH got one for me a while back, that was about $15 or $16, a longer, heavier case than these. When we saw these, we got 2 more.

They run down faster than you'd think, with LED's, because there're 9 bulbs. Hence the advice to get rechargables, which will last a long, long time. The cost of the charger and the batteries is about what it costs to replace regular batteries 4 or 5 times, so they don't take long to pay for themselves.

When I want to candle, I put in freshly charged batteries, and it works fine. I can see the embryos bouncing around!

Are these silver colored, and about 4 inches long? Have a long black loop of rope for a handle? Says Element on the side?
My DH keeps bringing these things home and as he's a Snap-On kind of guy, not Craftsman, I cringe every time I see more. Please tell me they're cheaper than I think!

Thanks for the tip!!!!

Mine are not quite 3 1/2" long, are available in several colors, have a loop on the end, the switch is a rubber covered button on the butt end, and they are $3.99, like I said. Mine say "GREATLITE" on the side.

Why would you cringe? Fear of too many flashlights? Have you asked him how much they cost? Maybe he's getting them free, as promos or something.

Eggs4sale, I apologize. I googled Element flashlights. If your DH is buying these things a lot, you might have reason to cringe. They are absurdly high priced for what they are. Go to Auto Zone and get a $3.99 one and put it up against his Element, and see whether the Element is better.

Pattymal, you're welcome!

Do you mean the flashlights break right away, or that the batteries run down quickly?

The batteries run down quickly. They take 3 AAA also. I'm going to buy the rechargeable. I never even looked inside one of these things till just now. I HATE buying AAA.

Yes, they do run down fast.

I love rechargable batteries. I've saved beaucoup bucks with those. I got a charger that can do both AA and AAA. It only cost me about $15, and came with 4 AA's.
