9 month old pullet very weak, not eating or drinking

Peggy was doing good again today. Eating, drinking, being sassy. She was laying in the nesting box again this evening so was moved to her cage again for the night. Tomorrow, I'll just kick her out of the box and see if she goes back in after dark. She hasn't laid an egg since last week, I don't know what to think about that, she could just be off lay. I received an email from the state lab and they gave me the phone number to call for a necropsy so I have that info when needed

Peggy got up on the perch on her own this evening! And her sisters have been really good with letting her eat and drink and not bullying her away from anything. I'm so happy she rebounded! I'll take any positive news I can get. She looked very sassy on the perch and dared me to move her to her cage. Of course I didn't, I'll let her hang out and be as normal as she can be

That's good, she's not giving up!

Even when not feeling the best, they so want to be with their flock, so if her sisters are being kind, let her do her thing.

it could be egg bound or Merics disease. When I have a hen that is acting this way. I give her a warm bath in Epsom salts about 2 tablespoons of Epsom salts and hold her in the warm water for about 10 minutes. Then see if she gets better afterwards. Make sure she has a warm place to be in after that. if she is having raspatory problems she could be sick. I suggest that she stay in a warm place. If possible if she is really skinny, so that she can hopefully gain some weight back. (Being in the cold with a thin bird can cause more weight loss epically if it is not eating) But it could be a number of things and without a vet to check her out. it would be harder to determine what is wrong because she may need antibiotics and the vet. would be able to see what is wrong with her, by looking at her. If it is Merics it is a contagious disease that can sped to you whole flock. So I hope it is not that. I'm hoping it is just lack of fat or egg bound. I hope it is not coccidia which will require antibiotics for you whole flock, because it spreds from chicken to chicken and they get green loose stools. I'm not sure about the symptoms of the Avian flu. It is best to keep her from the rest of the flock and keep an on the rest of the flock too.

Thank you for your response. As I said in the first post, I checked for an egg and did not feel one. And giving her a bath would have done no good and would have stressed her out. She has been with the whole flock this whole time, no reason to remove her because the flock would have caught whatever she has anyways. And her poop has been normal since she resumed eating on her own so I know she does not have any issues there. It has been almost 90°F here so she has been in a warm place, to bring her inside would be chilling her. I truly believe she has ocular marek's, which means the whole flock already has it. But she is still getting better, eating, drinking, perching with everyone else at night. Hopefully she doesn't take a turn for the worst but I'm prepared to handle that if it should arise

Peggy laid an egg today! Her first one since being sick. I know for positive because she is only one of two that lays blue eggs and I got two today. And Peggy's have always been a little more green than blue. Everyone else seems great as well, even in this heat, they are dealing just fine. Hope I didn't just jinx myself!

So sorry you are dealing with that diagnosis, from yet another Becky.
But it's wonderful to hear Peggy is doing so well!
Maybe your flock can breed resistance, in time. I'm sure God has an upside for you.

Thank you! But my flock won't be breeding anything without a rooster! 🤣

Ok, I know it's been almost a year since I updated this thread. As far as the possible ocular mareks, all is well. No one has come down with any sickness or issues since Peggy last year. However, about three weeks ago, my husband was outside mowing and called me to come outside, quickly. The flock was beating and attacking Peggy, the original bird in question from post #1. They scalped her and she was bleeding pretty badly. So, I separated her and treated her for her injuries. She is healing great, no issue with her wound and she is eating and drinking and laying. She is in my garage by herself. I thought I could put her back in with everyone and see how they did with her, after two weeks of treatment by herself. Well, they all went after her again, right away. I mean, attacking and trying to kill her. I snatched her back up and put her back in the cage. So, now I'm torn on what to do. I have no issues culling a bully but when it's five chickens attacking one, I'm not going to cull my whole flock. But I don't want to cull Peggy either because it's not her fault everyone is attacking her. So, do I try to put her in the run with everyone, her in the cage and see how they react? Do I build her her own coop and she lives in there alone but can see the others? I can't give her away because of her possible mareks, besides, I really like her and want to keep her. She can't live in my garage forever. What are your thoughts, if anyone is still watching this thread?
