I hatched my very first silkies last year, and from the random eggs I received from a silkie breeder, I ended up with a black rooster, splash hen, and lavender hen (well, I had others, but then one day a hawk came...).
Since I love our little lavender, and since I found out this is somewhat rare, we asked the same breeder if she happened to have any lavender roosters to breed her with. She said she had two lavender splits, so we decided to pick one up a few days ago. My husband came home with it, and my first thought was "that's a hen." But I'm also used to looking at our rooster that is now over a year old (and maybe he matured early?) And one of our hens looks more like him than our rooster does...but I'm also not super experienced.
Anyway, what do you think? Is this a rooster (cockeral) or hen (pullet)?
