I too believed my chickens were destined to be non - layers. My chickens hatched in early March and we estimated laying to begin on early fall. WRONG!
Too many turned out to be roosters and then I figured with too many roos around my girls would never lay. But Mabel, one of my RIR's laid her first egg last SUnday and has been giving me roughly an egg a day since, and Homie, my little GLW gave me her first egg today!!
Hooray!!!!! I never thought it would happen!!!!!

How wonderful! Two of my girls will be 40 weeks old on Sat. , two others are 36 weeks old and not the first egg from them... How I wish they would lay or crow....One or the other.... [IMG]

Congratulations, I'm glad it's finally happening. I also got my very first egg today from my Polish chicken. I am so proud of her.
