New to the forum, but this is our 5th spring of raising chickens.

About 4 years ago we had a bird get her eye pecked out and she healed up just fine and lived a full and productive life.

Last year (4th flock of chickens) was the first time we ever experienced flock "cannibalism" and when it was all said and done 3 birds died a slow, horrible death.

Now this year (5th flock) 11 out of 12 chick have survived to this point (9 weeks old). This morning they were all fine. Now at 7:30 pm I notice one of them (2nd smallest) has her left eye pecked and bloody....her eye appears to be gone or at least very badly damaged. Beyond all else, I don't want to let cannibalism get started in this flock, that was so horrible last year.

Should I separate her? I don't really have a place to keep her, last year's birds are occupying the smaller coop. Should I chance leaving her out all night? Should I chance moving her in with last year's older birds? Should I just leave her with her peers and hope for the best?

She needs to be removed from the flock until the eye injury is no longer visible. If not they will kill her. You move her in with the older birds and they will also kill her. She needs to be kept alone until the eye heals. Can you put a dog crate inside the coop with her in it? She can stay in the coop as long as the other birds cannot reach her.
