That seems pretty young to me. He tried mounting his foster mom. She is a bit smaller in height than him. She didn't care for this behavior. Was it just a dominance thing or???

Is he crowing yet? Is that him in your picture? I was wondering how mature he is otherwise

He's not crowing, and just took this pic of him.

For his age he does shine Cockerel! That's a big comb! I almost think he actually knew what he was up to! Does he take care of the ladies to, protecting them?

Yeah, he's had a noticable comb for some weeks lol. He was supposed to be a girl (gold sex link).
I haven't seen it much, but there are older cockerels that guard the flock.

Dominance is a prelude to mating...so, yeah.
Have a precocious cross that start that business quite young.
The older hens may learn him some manners, keep an eye on any young pullets tho.

Yeah, she was wasn't happy with him when he tried heh
For sure :) thanks!

Bumping to see if anyone has any input on this. He's been doing it more. Should I separate him? He only does it to his foster mom.

Should I separate him?
I would....trouble makers stressing the flock have no place here.
Do you plan on keeping him ...or....?
Knowing more about your goals for keeping chickens,
your flock size(numbers, ages, genders),
your coop(size in feet by feet with pics),
might help here.

Is it causing trouble? If no, then do not separate.
If yes, then do separate.

Mounting hens is not going to hurt HIM. It may annoy the hens or hurt small hens/pullets, or it may not--you will have to judge that.

Or, if you intend to butcher him anyway, you could just do it now (no more wondering if he's no longer in the flock.)
