Today I noticed that one of my Buckeyes didn't seem like herself. She would come investigate what was going on when I went into the run (they all usually come running, so curious!) but then she would wander a few steps away and stand there, slowly closing her eyes. She'd stand there for a minute with her eyes closed, then she would wander off and go lay down near the coop. Here is the recent events.
1. The 9 week old buckeyes joined my 12 and 16 week old girls in the coop and run about a week ago.
2. I recently added some screened sandy loam to the run because the ground where we put the coop is very hard and kind of rocky. I purchased it from a reputable landscape company. (I hope I didn't bring in something in the soil!

) They do love digging in it.
3. The temperatures have spiked from low 80's into the mid to upper 90's within that week, only cooling off to the mid 60's at night, so I know everybody is hot. They have shade, water, and I lightly wet down a portion of the run. No standing water because of the sandy loam. I have even given them some frozen corn on the cob, which they really like.
4. I also changed their feed from medicated to non medicated. It has only been for a couple days. I just picked up a new bag of medicated and switched them back.
5. I have not had any chickens before this, but we have wild turkeys and other wild birds/animals all over out here. The coop is behind our house (we live out in the country) and we always have deer and turkeys out there.
6. Some watery, chestnut colored (best way I can describe it) poop. Not entirely sure who it is from.

So, I am wondering if it is a case of Coccidosis, if it is from the heat, or something else entirely! She does seem to be eating and drinking, but I wonder if I should separate her and bring her inside to watch her more closely. Should I start them on Cortid (which I just picked up, just in case) or electrolytes (I picked that up, too). I am new to chickens and just don't know what I am dealing with, if anything.

Please help!

Hey, I have had chooks for a year,
My red shaver started doing similar things to what your chichen is doing.
I'm very sorry to say but I get feelings about some things and knew she was on her last days.
Week later she was dead.
This is what she was doing if it helps,
She would wander away from the other hens and closed her eyes heaps, she would wait, then rejoin the others sometimes, but usually she would stand there, she was often alone.
I would often move her around, as she was standing still all the time, she would not eat, nor drink, but was happy to just spend time with me and stand still.
I think you should start playing doctor, many separate her for a while to monotar her, also check her temp and feed her fresh water and vegys and pellets.
Hope this helps :)

Jessgotchooks- Thank you for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear about your hen. I hope this won't be the same outcome. She was just fine yesterday, just acting off today. She still pretty much stays with her brooder mates (4 other Buckeyes and a RIR). She'll perk up for a minute, then her eyes kinda close. Almost like she's drowsy. And she is still eating and drinking. I hope I can do something for her, I just don't know what I should do.

Yea, I'm sorry if she is on her last days, but at least you can care for her and help her remember love.
It may also be something else, so many see a vet?
Sigh. Chickens are so lovely and when they get sick, I feel so horrible!
All the best luck!

Does anyone know what I should do for her? I am hoping it is just the heat, because she was fine one day, then a llittle off the next. She does still perk up and chase bugs when she sees them. And like I said, she is still eating and drinking.
