Hey

I have a SilkieX 9 week old hen that has had crop issues the past few weeks. It presents as swollen and balloon like with grit in the bottom. When I picked her up today she vomited thick mucus. And has happend 2x since.

When I first noticed this at the beginning of the month, I treated her with coconut oil and clotrimazole 2x a day for a week massaging her multiple times a day. I even tried withdrawing her from food. It went down slightly, but not much change.

I juat made up a solution of 150 mls water and a 150mg flucanazole pill. Though I am not convinced this is a yeast infection.

Her growth is slowed and she is becoming boney.

What do I do? I have had 1 chicken die of aspiration due to vomiting (I didnt intentionally make him vomit, he had coccidosis and after I gave hime electrolytes by dippi g his beak, I went to move him and everything came out his jose and beak and he aspirated then died.) So I am very hesitant with vomiting a chicken now. It doesnt help shes a favourite too.

Please help. Thank you for reading this.

Her crop would normally be full in the middle of the day. Are you checking her crop first thing in the morning after she has gone all night without eating, to see if her crop is empty? She seems young for a crop disorder. When picking up a chicken you have to be careful not to accidentally squeeze their crop or lean them forward, because crop contents can come back up into the throat. If her crop is full in the early morning before she has access to food and water since the night before, then she may have a crop problem. Incidentally, chickens with coccidiosis may have a slow crop in early morning that is not emptying normally. Here is a good article if she has a crop problem:
