9 week old 'pullets'...or are they??

I have 2 9 week old, supposedly hen, chicks. One is developing more comb and wattle as well as being more red than the other. Is it set in stone that one is not a hen?? They are Cochin/Silkie/Mutt cross. Same roo for both but mom could be RI, or BR. They are pretty light gray color. I live within city limits so I can NOT have a roo. Don't know if I should start to panic now or wait to see if "it" crows in a couple months. Going to attempt to attach a picture taken last night of the two. Any input greatly appreciated.

I'm finding a lot of useful info on BYC site but had not necessarily run across this particular question.

A picture would help. A cockerel would generally have a decent sized, bright red comb and dangling wattles by 9 weeks old. Pullets can start to sprout their combs at around 9 weeks old so if it's still small and pink rather than red, I don't think you have too much to worry about.

A picture would help. A cockerel would generally have a decent sized, bright red comb and dangling wattles by 9 weeks old. Pullets can start to sprout their combs at around 9 weeks old so if it's still small and pink rather than red, I don't think you have too much to worry about.

My msg posted before I figured out how to post a picture. By your description above I do, indeed, have something to worry about because I can't have (inside city limits) nor do I want a roo....

We can sympathise. We hatched some chicks and all the frizzles turned out to be boys. Thankfully the breeder took them back (the only reason we could do it) as we are suburban, like you. The kids were so upset.
