I have 6 nine week old runners and today I have noticed that 1 of them seems to be unsteady on his feet....sort of like he's drunk....they are still on growers, tomatoes, lettuce, mealworms, peas.....surely not a niacin problem?
But I am at a loss and sure could use your help.

Oh and everyone else is running around and foraging as normal.

Sometimes one out of a hatch will still need the extra niacin, so why not try it or brewers yeast and see if it helps, sure can't hurt.

I would try a wide spectrum poultry vitamin with electrolytes and probiotics, too. It helped one of my puny ducklings. I made some up and put it in a teacup and let the little sip out of it in my lap. Certainly made me feel better

He seems to be amnemic so I have ordered iron and vitimins online (can't get it locally), currently a friend is looking after him for a couple of days....she has more experience than me and runs a wild animal rescue centre and has antibiotics, painkillers and anything else he may need.

I am a little concerned about iron. I have been told to avoid iron in vitamins for ducks. Some things that help us are toxic to ducks, like certain painkillers.

How did you arrive at the anemia-iron conclusion? I would say, get poultry vitamins if you are ordering online, and cancel the iron.

In his mouth is paler than normal, I have only experienced amnemia in chickens when we had a bad mite problem about 3 years ago, so I have probably put 2 and 2 together and come up with 5 but I have fumigated the duck shed and the chicken shed to make sure.

Ok will cancel the Iron and change the order for just poultry vitamins, thanks for the heads up.

Thanks. In the meantime, depending on your area, niacin capsules may be easy to locate. 100 to 150 mg niacin per gallon of water is reommended in Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks for ducklings that show signs of niacin deficiency. Your little's symptoms could be from that.

Ducklings need three times the niacin chicks do. And some ducklings seem much more sensitive to it than others.

I have been giving them a tablespoon of brewers yeast in their food, I ruled out niacin because it doesn't seem to be a leg problem.....he seem's weak like my chickens did when we had the mite infestation......he just doesn't act like how everyone on here describes niacin deficiency?

The nearest poultry vet is 82 miles away, I have a phone/video consultation booked for tomorrow

hope he can help me.
