We are just getting started with backyard chickens. We have three 9 week old hens that live in a coop in the backyard. My daughter picked one up today and she pooped a whitish liquid diarrhea on her. We gave them some pears and strawberries. Could the fruit cause this? The rest of the poop in the coop looks normal. My chicken disease book was not very helpful.

thanks.

It sounds like she had a little bit too much fruit. A 9 week old pullet who eats a lot of fruit at once, especially new stuff, can have stomach upset. I saw it with mine at that young age. Just remember that fruit has sugar, salt and acid...so give it in moderation.

How is she acting? Is she eating and has her poo returned to normal?

I cut back on the fruit and my little girls are just fine now.
