I'm ready for lockdown. Today is officially the day but I was preparing yesterday. My incubator has run 90 % for 24 hours. Do I need to remove one of the wet sponges to get it down. Or is 90% the max?

I would be leary of 90% .. there are some that will tell you it's ok .. but I prefer 65% as a max.

I agree with texasgal, I would try to get it down. I prefer around 65% for lockdown and hatching as well. There really isn't a "correct" humidity since there are so many variables that could change what you set it to. Things like, did the eggs lose a lot of weight during incubation? If so you would want your humidity higher. If your humidity has been high through the whole incubation up to now, you would want to set your humidity a lot lower so the chicks don't drown when they internally pip.

It has been around 60- 65% . I added the extra wet sponge yesterday to raise it a little

Whoa, 90% is WAY high and I would be very concerned about drowning chicks in the egg. 60 - 65% is the most common target.

I'd remove a sponge. There is no risk in opening the incubator at this point as long as none of the chicks have pipped.

I removed them. (wet sponges) Humidity still at 90%. I put in another reader to check. And it read the same. So it is somewhat accurate. All vents are open. Temp is about 100 -101 degrees. I have to go to work now........How do I get it to lower? Other wise is will have to go this way another 9 hours.

Was it a dry incubation? If so, it won't hurt too much to leave it... I would try popping out a window if your bator has one. Or even opening it for a short period of time.
