Yes put the plugs back in and it will help. Do you have a hydometer and did you calibrate it first? First hatch?

Could you tell this is my first hatch? What gave it away? My

that one has hatched or my

what do I do now attitude?

The red plugs on the LG wouldn't close off the air supply completely. There are smaller holes dotting the bottom of the tray that could effectually provide air for the little peep. I think I am going to put at least one of the plugs in which would still allow for ventilation but increase the humidity I think.

I do not have a way of checking it. DH and I never made it to Lowes before lockdown to get one and I couldn't find one at Tr@ctor $upply.

DH just reported that I have a few rocking again.

Ok, look me up on how to calibrate the hydrometer before you start another hatch. It will help you calm down some. I just realized that mine was 17% off

Amazing anything hatched with that variation.

Laura, it's called a hygrometer (Yes, with a g) and you can can one that reads humidity and temp at WalMart for your next hatch. For now, leave one plug out for air circulation.

And for your own sanity and the safety of the chicks, remove both DH and dog from the room!

Happy hatching!

That first one out will alert the others to hurry up and hatch. They call to each other to help coordinate the hatch. Leave the chick in there, it will help the others hurry up.

How do you calibrate a hydrometer? I have a little round one the size of a quarter. What should be the humidity in the incubator?
