911!!!!!!!!!! my hen was attacked!!!

The predators are a little white poodle and a red mini weenie dog. I just happened to be in the backyard, hunkered down in the grass when I watched them slide under the fence. Shame I didn't have my shovel handy or I'd took care of that, but instead, I jumped up waving my arms and hollering. I don't know how the poodle didn't have a heart attack and I'm hoping I scared them so bad they won't come back. Gonna call the animal control folks in the morning and report some strays. I stuck some junk lumber scraps I had laying around into the spot they came in and perhaps that'll get us through the night.

Thats the handywork of a raccoon. I had a silkie rooster who lost half his comb that way. After losing 10 chickens i finally got the sucker. His pelt will make a nice hat.

If you can, get inject-able Poultry Penicillin and give her a dose (10 units for a large bird) once a day for a week. It will help with any bacteria that may have been in the dog's mouth or in her area that she's generally resistant to.

You'll need to get a fairly large bore needle, Penicillin is very thick. Good luck!

I am so sorry for your loss. Just remember do not use Neosporin with the pain medicine in it for chickens. Plain Neosporin. We had a dog attack back in Oct of last year. It just killed 12 of them. I am guessing for fun. If it had been hungry I could have understood a little bit. Because that is different. But just to kill to kill about killed me. Good luck hope she heals fast and well.
